Editor’s Note December ’16: Making a list, checking it twice

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!

It’s that wonderful time of the year when we deck the halls, indulge in delicious food and enjoy the fellowship of family and friends.

It could also be called the season of lists:

  • Who is on the guest list and what’s the menu and my assignment for that special holiday meal?
  • Who is on the Christmas card or family letter list?
  • Who is on Santa’s nice and naughty list?

This year, I’m going to work on a couple of new lists during the holidays:

  • As I gather around the Thanksgiving table, I want to be mindful of the many blessings that those around me enjoy. A loving family, faithful friends and good health are sure to be near the top of the list.
  • As the holidays approach, I’m going to work to be less stressed about what is or isn’t under the Christmas tree (sorry, kids) and focus on ways to enjoy the holidays. Some of the items I’m sure will be on this new list include attending church services throughout Advent; driving around Central Arkansas to look at beautiful lights and Christmas displays; and spending time with family, watching a Christmas movie or baking some of my husband’s favorite Buffalo Chip Cookies.

I want to feel less like Santa and his reindeer are dancing on my head and more like this season is intended – in celebration of the joy created that first Christmas so long ago.

Helping others

While food is oftentimes our focus this time of year, we are also mindful that some of our neighbors in the 501 are food insecure even though we live at a time when no one should go hungry.

We are thankful for individuals throughout the 501 who give their time and resources to ensure our neighbors are fed. As we enter this special season, we hope you will consider lending a hand to help those in need.

Giving thanks

Throughout the holidays and the year, we are mindful at 501 LIFE of the many blessings that we have enjoyed since we embarked on this incredible venture. There are great communities in Central Arkansas that we are proud to serve. We have supportive advertisers and editorial boards as well as a talented team of writers, photographers and designers. We are truly thankful.

As we wish you and yours the best of the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, here’s to “Loving LIFE!”
