Divine design: Family enjoys kitchen update

To the couple, Arkansas has always been home as Debbie and Bud both grew up in Hot Springs. After getting married, Debbie followed Bud with his work to Sherwood, then Indianapolis and later to outside of St. Louis.

When the pharmaceutical industry led Bud back to Arkansas, they found the home where they now reside in the Royal Oaks subdivision in western Conway.“The neighborhood was a great place to raise children and the schools were wonderful,” said Debbie, “We were excited to plant our roots here.”

With three kids – two in college and one in high school – it was time to tackle the task of sprucing up the kitchen. Debbie contacted the Carpet Center to begin the process.

“I wanted to update the space in keeping with the style of the house, and the people at the Carpet Center were great in helping me accomplish that,” explained Debbie.

Already in love with the layout of the kitchen, Debbie focused on replacing the countertops with stunning dark granite and the backsplash in a tumble stone. Small touches of stone are in the island countertop along with small touches of granite in the back splash.

One of her favorite upgrades in the kitchen is the rounded granite sink. “You can take a pot from the stove and place it right in the sink without the high temperature hurting the sink,” Debbie said.
Oil-rubbed bronze fixtures and new appliances completed the look.

“We just finished replacing the lighting a week ago. It took us an entire year,” said Debbie, “but we are so happy with how it turned out.”

Updating her kitchen was an adventure for Debbie. She wanted it to be inviting and warm, but was a little hesitant about the dark finishes. However, after reassurance from friends, family and the Carpet Center, Debbie now enjoys cooking in a stunning kitchen with her family.
