Disabled adults reel in joy at ‘Reelin’ and Rollin’ Fishing Derby

Maumelle — Achieve Community Alliance has successfully hosted the Reelin’ and Rollin’ Fishing Derby on Sept. 26 at Lake Valencia in Maumelle. Sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission & AGFC Foundation, Eat My Catfish, and Summit Community Care, the event brought together adult clients of Achieve Community Alliance for a day filled with fishing, laughter and community spirit.

The fishing derby underscored the importance of ensuring adults with disabilities have access to recreational opportunities like fishing, which promote physical wellness, build confidence, and bring joy.

“Fishing offers a sense of freedom, peace, and accomplishment that everyone deserves to experience,” said Melissa Roberson, Director of Achieve Life, at Achieve Community Alliance. “For our clients, this event was about more than casting a line—it was about belonging, empowerment, and fun.”

Participants reeled in their catches, celebrated each other’s successes, and enjoyed time outdoors in an inclusive, supportive environment. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and volunteers, the day was full of energy, excitement, and smiles.

High-resolution photos from the event are attached to this release, showcasing the excitement, joy, and community spirit that filled Lake Valencia.

Achieve Community Alliance extends its gratitude to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Eat My Catfish, and Summit Community Care for making this event possible. Together, they helped create lasting memories and reinforced the value of inclusive recreation in Arkansas communities.
