07 Jun 2011 ‘CSO on the Go’ set Thursday
The Conway Symphony Orchestra will present “CSO on the Go!” from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at The Village at Hendrix in Conway. The free concert will feature performances from Pinnacle Brass, Vintage and the Conway Jazz Orchestra.
The community is invited to enjoy a free evening of music on the Market Square. Bring a blanket or chair, a picnic supper and family and friends! ZaZa’s will offer 10 percent off ‘to go’ orders if audience members call ahead and indicate they are attending the CSO performance. Panera Bread will have ‘U Pick 2’ soup, salad or sandwich combos for $6.59-$8.59. The Green Cart Deli will also be at The Village during the concert, offering a special philanthropy hot dog, The Izzy, in honor of CSO conductor Israel Getzov, to benefit the Conway Symphony.
In addition to local performances, Pinnacle Brass has toured France, Austria and China. The quintet is made up of Larry Jones, trumpet; Jonathan Monroe, trumpet; Brent Shires, horn; Michael Tucker, trombone; and Louis Young, tuba. Their musical selections will include jazz (Ellington, Gershwin), patriotic music (America the Beautiful, John Phillips Sousa), Baroque classics and more.
Local favorite Vintage is coming out of retirement for one more performance by special request. Vocalists Liz Parker, Donna Hutchinson, Sherry Norrell, Angela Greenland and Kathy Peery will entertain with classic favorites from the 1930s through the 1970s. They have performed on stages throughout the state from the Arlington Hotel to the Walton Arts Center, in addition to concerts with the Conway Symphony and the Monroe Symphony Orchestra (La.).
The Conway Jazz Orchestra was formed under the direction of Larry Jones for a debut performance at the Night of Distinction concert and dinner at the University of Central Arkansas. An assistant professor of trumpet and jazz at UCA, Jones is a member of the Arkansas and Conway symphony orchestras and is equally at home in both classical and jazz worlds. The Conway Jazz Orchestra will feature a wide-ranging performance of jazz selections.
CSO on the Go! is part of the Conway Symphony community music series sponsored by Southwestern Energy. The June 9 performance is hosted by The Village at Hendrix. Rain location will be Staples Auditorium at Hendrix College. Check the Conway Symphony website, www.conwaysymphony.org or Facebook page for a rain decision.
