06 Nov 2010 Conway Women’s Chorus
Join the ladies as theyvisit the music and life and food of 1940-1945 in a WWII USO party setting.Music straight from the top selling music of 1940-1945 will include Take the A Train and It Don’t Mean a Thing by Duke Ellingtonand the Andrew Sisters’ Boogie WoogieBugle Boy and Don’t Sit under the Apple Tree.
Of course, we will have our traditional sing-a-long, butthis time we will be highlighting “chart busting” hits from the country musicgenre. Rounding out the program will be selections from the movie “WhiteChristmas”. The movie hit the screen in 1953 and was a look at the lives ofsoldiers in the years following the war. Most of the music was actually from the decade preceding the premier ofthe film, with the title song a number one hit by Bing Crosby in 1942.
The afternoon performance will be a look at a very difficulttime in US history. The country was recovering from the Great Depression andyoung men were going to war. People were angry at the government andanti-immigrant sentiment was running rampant. Yet the country chose to pulltogether in a spirit of patriotism. Come join us as we honor our military andthe contributions they have made to our lives from WW II to the present.
