23 Jul 2014 Conway Kids' Triathlon two weeks away
The 17th annual First Security Conway Kids’ Triathlon is quickly approaching and continues to accept registrations through Friday, Aug. 1.
The triathlon – scheduled Saturday, Aug. 2 – moves to Hendrix College this year from the University of Central Arkansas. Youth ages 6 to 15 can register at conwaykidstri.com until Aug. 1, as long as spots are still available.
The Conway event is one of the country’s premier youth triathlons for all kids, not just kids who participate in triathlons.
"With less than two weeks away, momentum and excitement are building! Right now we have kids registered from Arkansas, New York, Wisconsin and Texas. Our incredible sponsors are our biggest supporters and have stepped up to help make this year a huge success," said Shannon Milam, Conway Kids’ Triathlon race director.
Triathlons are events involving three sports – swimming, biking and running; and while the health benefits of participating are obvious, the self-confidence that comes from being involved in an endurance event is just as important.
“Registration goes up $5 this Friday so we are encouraging everyone to get signed up today," said Milam.
The Conway Kids’ Triathlon is an event for all abilities. Ages 6 to 10 complete a 50-yard swim, two-mile bike and half-mile run. Ages 11-15 complete a 100-yard swim, four-mile bike and mile run.
Many kids participating in the event are experienced at triathlons and are working to improve their finish times and place. For many other kids, this event will be their first triathlon and are working to finish the race and accomplish personal goals.
The First Security Conway Kids’ Triathlon is brought by the Conway Running Club and title sponsor, First Security. The event emphasizes health, self-esteem, self-confidence and fun in a safe, family-friendly environment.
This year’s triathlon benefits Soul Food Café Mission.
