Conway Farmers Market announces new board members, plans for 2022

The Conway Farmers Market board of directors, returning vendors, and potential new vendors met Jan. 29 for the annual Interest Meeting. Board President Maria Barbarotto announced the following changes for the 2022 season:

  1. The grand opening will be April 23 at the Antioch Baptist Church parking lot at 150 Amity Road, Conway. The season will conclude Oct. 29.
  2. Market hours will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a food truck will be present each Saturday. Since several are interested in participating, different food trucks will rotate throughout the season.

The Conway Farmers Market looks to continue growth after a successful 2021 season, where they averaged over 30 vendors and more than 300 attendees weekly. The market will continue to maintain 60% vegetable and meat farmers and 40% value added vendors such as artisans, bakers, and other creatives. Promotions will run throughout the year to encourage the public to attend.

The board recognized Phyllis Strack and Nikki Reagan for serving on the previous board. Mrs. Strack’s family started the market in 1960 and has participated each year until 2021. “The board thanks Phyllis and the Strack family for decades of service to the market and community,” Barbarotto said.

Jim Elliot and Kenneth Hoyt were announced as new board members, joining Barbarotto, Marsha Phillips (secretary), and Wayne Olles (treasurer) as the voting members. Non-voting members include Leanna Lee Clark (legal), Bryan Dearasaugh (market manager), Aaron Crow (assistant market manager) and Ed Linck (publicity).
