CONWAY — Conway Corp. earned the American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2023. The utility won the diamond award, the highest level of achievement in the category for utilities, with between 110,000 and 249,999 worker hours of annual exposure.

“In our industry, safety has to be top of mind all day every day,” said Chair APPA’s Engineering and Operations Conference Chair Scott McKenzie. “These honored utilities have demonstrated a commitment to safety that runs through every aspect of their organizations.”

More than 160 utilities from across the country entered the annual Safety Awards. Participants were placed in categories according to their number of worker hours and ranked based on incident-free records and the overall state of their safety programs and culture during 2023. The incidence rate is based on the number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses and the number of worker hours during 2023, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

“I am consistently amazed by the work our employees do here at Conway Corp,” Safety Director Brent Fason said. “Electric Distribution System Manager Robert Meek and his team do a very hazardous job, and they do it with excellence. While I am grateful Conway Corp has been recognized with this award, I am not surprised. Safety is a core value at Conway Corp, and we will not compromise the safety of ourselves, our fellow employees or our customers.”

The Safety Awards have been held annually for more than 65 years. APPA is the voice of nonprofit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide.
