Conway Corp Cares: Spreading positive energy at area schools

CONWAY – As the sun rises and the day begins, something special happens at our local elementary schools. Amid the hustle and bustle of parents dropping off their children and buses arriving, there is a warm and welcoming presence that stands out – the friendly faces of Conway Corp employees.

These dedicated utility workers arrive early to greet children as they walk into school, offering a smile, a high-five or a few encouraging words. This simple act of kindness has a profound impact on the students, setting a positive tone for their day. The partnership between the utility company and the schools aims to create a nurturing environment where children feel valued and supported from the moment they arrive.

“Our school greetings are a big hit, with employees from all departments eager to participate,” Conway Corp Marketing Project Coordinator/Event Specialist Margaret Smith said. “The students’ enthusiasm and warm welcomes make it a fantastic way to kick off the day. We look  forward to it every time.”

The initiative started as a pilot program at Carolyn Lewis Elementary and quickly gained popularity. Seeing the positive response from students, parents and administrators, Conway Corp expanded the program and have greeted at Jim Stone Elementary and Florence Mattison Elementary as well. The presence of these friendly greeters helps to strengthen the bond between the community and the utility company, showing that Conway Corp is not just a service provider, but an integral part of the community fabric.

Research has shown a positive start to the day can significantly impact a child’s mood, behavior and academic performance. By greeting children in the mornings, these employees are helping to boost the students’ morale and instill a sense of confidence and readiness to tackle the day’s challenges. This positive interaction can lead to improved focus and engagement in the classroom, setting the stage for a successful day of learning.

In addition to the morning greetings, Conway Corp also engages with the students through various educational initiatives, including Read Across America and live demonstrations from linemen in the electric department. These hands-on interactions provide resources and presentations on topics such as energy conservation, safety and environmental responsibility. While these opportunities are interactive and fun, they help spark curiosity and a love for learning about important issues that affect their daily lives. They also open students’ minds to the possibility of trade work and the many avenues that blue collar workers can be successful in as well.

The partnership between Conway Corp and the elementary schools is a win-win for everyone involved. Students receive the encouragement and support they need to start their day on a positive note, teachers notice an improvement in classroom dynamics, and the utility company strengthens its relationship with the community. Moreover, the program highlights the importance of community involvement and the impact that small acts of kindness can have on the overall well-being of our future generations.

As the program continues to grow, there are plans to incorporate additional activities and expand to more schools in the area. Conway Corp is also exploring opportunities to involve other local businesses and organizations, creating a broader network of support for our young learners. By working together, we can ensure that every child has the chance to start their day with a smile and a sense of excitement for the learning adventures that lie ahead.

The partnership between Conway Corp and our local schools is a shining example of how community engagement can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children. By greeting students in the mornings and supporting their educational journey, the utility company is helping to build a brighter, more connected future for all.
