16 Aug 2017 CONWAY CHRISTIAN: Eagles continue success under new leadership
Conference: 5-2A
Coach: Justin Kramer
’16 Record: 9-3
The Conway Christian Eagles face a big change in 2017. After six years, one conference title and a combined 28 wins in the last three seasons alone, the Eagles are under new coaching leadership this fall. Michael Carter makes the move to Little Rock Episcopal, and Justin Kramer, a former Little Rock Christian coach, takes over.
But with the amount of talent returning at skill positions, Conway Christian fans shouldn’t expect to see a change in the amount of success on the field.
Junior Jacob Wood takes over at quarterback. The Eagles return their leading rusher in senior running back Luke Gates. Juniors Nick Scherrey, Bennett Ellis and Brandon Shaw give the Eagles big-play potential at receiver. Seniors Nathan Burrow and Brett Callaway and junior Jevin Callaway project as starters on the offensive line.
Seniors J.P. Dolan and Dawson James provide experience on the defensive and offensive lines. Senior Winston Strawn is a defensive leader at the middle linebacker spot. Gates, Scherrey, junior Matthew Dent and sophomores Wyatt Lawrence and John Baker fill out the defensive secondary.
“Our strength is our tradition of success,” Kramer said. “Our weakness is numbers.”
