Community wellness program planned at Greenbrier

The “Greenbrier Gets Fit Mayor’s 107-mile Challenge” is a friendly, community walking/running campaign open to anyone interested in improving their health.

Mayor Melton Cotton began walking regularly about a year ago and was so pleased with the results that his is encouraging others to do the same. The challenge is designed to encourage participants to walk or run about a mile a day, but it is up to the individual how to get them in.

Local radio station My Country Y107 is meeting the challenge head on and promoting the campaign.

The community wellness program is designed to encourage people to “get motivated, get moving and get fit!” The only requirements to participate are:

  • Register online at greenbriergetsfit.com.
  • Log miles on the website (beginning Jan. 1.)
  • Walk or run miles between Jan. 1 and April 19.

A celebration event will be held Saturday, April 19, and participants will be invited to walk the last mile together with the mayor.

Visit greenbriergetsfit.com for resources for walking/running programs and great places to get out and get fit. The program is free.
