21 Apr 2014 CHS to present 'Peter Pan'
The Conway High School drama program will perform a “Peter Pan” musical Friday, April 24, through Sunday, April 26, at the James H. Clark Auditorium on campus.
There will be two shows per day with 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. shows Friday and Saturday, and 1 and 7 p.m. shows Sunday. The shows are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Anthony Spiridigliozzi, who has been with the district for eight years, is directing the musical.
“The script we are using is by Piers Chater Robinson who is based out of London,” Spiridigliozzi said. “The script is more closely based off of J.M. Barrie’s book. The music is different from the Cathy Rigby or Mary Martin Broadway versions. This music is a little more contemporary.”
The program is also working with ZFX Special Effects out of Louisville, Ky., to install a flying system with wires and safety harnesses.
“It does have all of the characters that people will expect to see – Hook, Smee, the Lost Boys, Wendy, Michael, John and Peter Pan. We are using lights for Tinkerbell, and large puppets to create Nana and the crocodile.”
More than 160 students will be participating in the musical.
“The students involved are either acting, stage managing, working backstage, doing makeup or playing in the orchestra pit. The majority of the students involved having been rehearsing and fundraising since mid-January.”
The drama program performs at least two shows a year directed by Kelly Webber. There is one musical a year that Spiridigliozzi directs. For more information, visit http://auditorium.conwayschools.org/.
Rebecca Hutcherson is the student director. Courtney Joseph is the head stage manager. Collin Litchenwalter and Emily Brock are assistant stage managers.
