29 Feb 2012 CHS hosting Tournament of Champions
Conway High School will host its second annual boys soccer preseason Tournament of Champions on Friday and Saturday at John McConnell Stadium.
This will be the second time the state has had a preseason soccer tournament of this magnitude. Organizers are bringing in the past few years state champions for all classifications to Conway to play.
The accepted teams:
7A Little Rock Catholic-5 state titles (2002, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011)
7A Conway High-2 state titles (2004, 2008)
6A Searcy High-5 state titles (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011)
5A Siloam Springs-1 state title (2011)
5A Central Arkansas Christian-1 state titles (2008)
4A De Queen High-3 state titles (2009, 2010, 2011)
The Conway tournament is the only event that hosts all the state champions from the previous year and one other team. Last year, the at-large team was Siloam Springs who went on to win the 5A state championship.
This year’s group of teams should be challenged early and will have a chance to gauge themselves against the other championship teams in the state that they rarely play because of conference alignments.
Games begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday, with the championship game played on Saturday night.
The Conway High team is scheduled to play at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
