10 Oct 2016 Celebrating Master Gardener Week
Master Gardener volunteers from across the state are making plans for “Celebrate Master Gardener Week!” today through Saturday, Oct. 15, and will celebrate the 28th birthday of the Arkansas Master Gardener Program.
In Faulkner County, Master Gardeners are celebrating their 20th birthday. Master Gardeners work on 38 different projects, eight of which are readily visible through their efforts at the county libraries, the Faulkner County Courthouse grounds, the Faulkner County Museum and the Legacy Gardens located at 110 Amity Road.
The public is invited to celebrate Faulkner County Master Gardeners and these projects by attending scheduled events at each site. All events are free and open to the public.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, Master Gardener Sheila Nash will present a workshop titled “Propagating Perennials” at the Faulkner County Extension Office from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. If you are interested in learning how to divide plants, please call the Extension Office at 501.329.8344 to reserve a spot in this class and get further information regarding this event. The Faulkner County Extension Office is located at 844 Faulkner St. in Conway.
Faulkner County Judge Jim Baker will attend the Master Gardeners’ monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 12, to present a proclamation recognizing the group’s volunteer efforts in the county. During 2015, the Faulkner County Master Gardeners logged 15,156 service hours in educational workshops, beautification and conservation projects and partnered with other county organizations to improve the overall quality of life of citizens in Faulkner County. The educational portion of the meeting will feature a short DVD highlighting the development of the Legacy Gardens. Guests are welcome to attend the meeting, held at Antioch Baptist Church, 150 Amity Road. The meeting is planned 10:45 a.m. to noon.
Four of the county’s libraries – Conway, Greenbrier, Vilonia and Twin Groves – will feature indoor displays set up by the Master Gardeners who work on the landscaping at each library.
At noon Friday, Oct.14, the Mayflower Library will celebrate its 20th birthday. There will also be a dedication of the new Memorial Garden for victims of the 2014 tornado. Family members and the community are invited to attend. There will also be a special dedication with a plaque in memory of Master Gardener Jo Magee.
