17 Dec 2025 CBC uses extra period to dispatch Harris-Stowe
CONWAY – Opening American Midwest Conference play without the conference’s leading scorer, Central Baptist College men’s basketball hosted the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State on Dec. 11 at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (4-8, 1-0 AMC) needed an extra five minutes to defeat HSSU (1-9, 0-2 AMC) 91-85 to open conference play with a win.

Five Mustangs scored in double figures, led by Caleb Knight with a season-high 23 points. Keshun Brown and Dalton Alexander III both added 14 points while Tyler Johnson had 13 and MacArthur Reed, Jr., added 12. CBC was able to cash in on second chance points 15-9 and outscored HSSU 62-48 in the paint.
GAME FLOW
In a game that featured 13 ties and 11 lead changes, Harris-Stowe had an 12 point lead in the first half, but CBC took a 46-42 lead into the locker room. CBC’s largest lead of the game came at 72-64 with 6:23 to play before HSSU went on a 15-6 run over the 5:04 to put CBC down 79-78 with 1:19 to go. A Knight free throw with 58 seconds left tied the score at 79 and a layup by Johnson with 50 seconds left tied put CBC up 81-79. A dunk by the Hornets tied the game at 81 before the teams traded free throws to knot it at 83. A Johnson three just before the buzzer went off target and the game went into overtime, a first for both teams this season.
In the extra period, Brown banked in a three to open the scoring and CBC set sail, getting another Brown basket with 2:23 left to put the game out of reach. A free throw by Johnson and a layup by Brown, his seventh points of overtime, brought the game to its final margin.
MUSTANG NOTES
- CBC won at home for the second time this season
- The Mustangs improved to 17-8 all-time against Harris-Stowe and have won seven in a row in the series
- CBC improved to 3-1 when leading at halftime
- CBC won in overtime for the first time since the Opening Round of the 2024 NAIA Tournament against MidAmerica Nazarene
- This was CBC’s 30th overtime game dating back to 2003 and they won for the 12th time
- Knight’s 23 points were his first time crossing 20 this season, with 14 of his 23 coming in the first half
- 91 points is a new season high for CBC
