09 Apr 2025 CBC splits with #15 MBU
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Entering the day in a three-way tie for first place in the American Midwest Conference, Central Baptist College softball took on the 15th-ranked Spartans of Missouri Baptist on Tuesday at Spartan Field. CBC (21-17, 10-2 AMC) split the doubleheader with #15 MBU (28-6, 10-2 AMC), dropping game one 9-0 before winning game two 3-2.

GAME ONE – #15 MBU 9, CBC 0 (FIVE INNINGS)
Missouri Baptist scored all of their runs in the second and third innings, with four in the second and five in the third. CBC was only able to get two hits off MBU pitching, those coming off the bats of Madalyn Tubbs and Taviah Bradley.
GAME TWO – CBC 3, #15 MBU 2
A pitcher’s dual broke out between starters Hailey Marange and Taylor Whitehead. Missouri Baptist scored their only runs in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead and chase Marange from the game. Olivia Pickard came in to get the final out of the fifth and the Mustangs responded offensively in the sixth. Kori Truelove started the inning with a single before she was brought home on a Kinley Johnson double to make it 2-1. Following a popout, Abi West and Johnson moved the third on a wild pitch. Following a passed that put two in scoring position and a ground out, Taylyn Shuffield rapped a double down the right field line that scored both Johnson and West and gave CBC a 3-2 lead that Isabella Sawyers made stand up, as she set the side down in order in the sixth and battled around a one-out single in the seventh for her first save of the season. Marange started and went four-and-two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and two unearned runs with a walk and a strikeout. Pickard earned the win after allowing just one walk. Sawyers also struck out one in her appearance.
