The Trojans took part in the Sam Freas Invitational this past Saturday where they put down some fast times to open up their first weekend on the road. This meet was not scored but instead dedicated to the late sprints coach, Sam Freas.

“It’s very exciting collecting the first MVC swimmer of the week awards. Both Jaelle and BiBi have looked outstanding at training and it’s not surprising they put together such strong performance this past weekend at the Sam Freas Invitational.” said Head Coach Nathan Townsend.

On Saturday, Carlson opened up her triumphant meet taking the Trojan A relay to their first win in the 200 medley relay where she delivered aan impressive  24.48 split in the 50 fly, helping the team finish with a time of 1:44.23 — one full second ahead of North Texas. She continued her winning streak to the 50 freestyle where she was the only swimmer to go a sub 24 second, swimming 23.83 to take first place. Carlson went on to take second place in the 100 fly in a time of 57.22, putting her top of the rankings in the MVC so far this season in this event.

Meanwhile Romero had an incredible start to her freshman season at her first meet of her career as a Trojan. At the Invite,  she took second place in a time of 57.22 which is a personal best as well as ranking her third in the current MVC top times list. Her efforts didn’t stop there as she swam to third in another lifetime best of 2:07.81 in the 200 backstroke, this places her first in the MVC top times list for the 200 back.
