16 Aug 2014 CAC: Mustangs aim to control the line of scrimmage in '14
Conference: 2-4A
Coach: Tommy Shoemaker
’13 Record: 4-6 (2-5)
The Central Arkansas Christian Mustangs started 2013 with two wins in non-conference play, but only managed two more wins in their next eight games. The Mustangs couldn’t top the elite in the 7-4A, but a move to a new conference could be just what CAC needs to rebound in 2014.
Former 501 Football Team honoree and quarterback Jack Thomas has graduated, leaving the Mustangs with a new face leading the offense this fall. Junior Kayleb Scallon and sophomore Noah Evans are the most likely candidates to take over the quarterback position.
Junior Braylon Harris returns at running back. Senior Stephen Flanigan leads the CAC wide receivers after earning all-conference honors last fall. Classmates Keaton Raney and Zac Lilly join Flanigan in the receiving corps.
Seniors Jason Kidder, Chandler Hamilton, Aaron Robinson, Jordan Rhoads, Austin Bland and Jack Novak lead a deep offensive line.
Juniors Brent Johnston and Jon Andrews are studs up front for the CAC defense at tackle and end, respectively. Senior Daylon Moore leads the defense from his linebacker position, alongside junior Landon Stevenson. Flanigan leads the secondary at safety.
The Mustangs move to the 2-4A this fall facing a number of other 501 foes — Riverview, Heber Springs and Lonoke.
