16 Aug 2017 CABOT: Panthers reloading with talented squad
Conference: 7A Central
Coach: Mike Malham
’16 Record: 7-5
Cabot entered 2016 with high hopes, and for good reason, as the Panthers had a very talented team. But injuries to key position players derailed the Panthers’ championship hopes.
Graduation hit Cabot hard in May, and the Panthers return only three starters on offense and four on defense.
Senior Cody Skinner and junior Jessie Windemaker compete at quarterback. Senior Adam Flores is back at running back after rushing for 427 yards and four touchdowns last fall. Bradley Morales, Tommy Oaks and T.J. Rogers join Flores in the backfield. Seniors John Wiens and William Shirley provide big targets at tight end. Seniors C.J. Long, Jacob Davis, Colby Tolison and Ryan Travis and junior Davis Wofford project as starters on the offensive line.
Senior Dayonte Roberts returns to anchor the defensive line at noseguard after recording 41 tackles last fall. Senior David Hubanks joins Roberts on the line at tackle. Marcus Graham, Dylan Dowda and Omero Garcia round out the defensive line. Juniors Lucas Crumbly and Justin Holland and senior Ben McCullough are top newcomers at linebacker. Seniors Bryce Billings and Austin Swakhammer lead the secondary.
“We don’t have much size and a lot of inexperience,” Coach Mike Malham said. “But we feel like the potential is there.”
