23 Sep 2018 Cabot cleanup planned Oct. 6
Cabot Clean-Up: Fall 2018 will be held 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, Oct. 6.
Volunteers are needed for Cabot’s annual litter-pickup campaign. Sponsored by Cabot City Beautiful (CCB), the cleanup is being held in conjunction with the Great Arkansas Cleanup, the annual statewide litter pickup campaign presented by Keep Arkansas Beautiful, a state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc. The Cabot campaign is always planned in advance of CabotFest.
Everyone in the Cabot community is encouraged to participate in this year’s litter-pickup effort. Civic and service organizations, church and youth groups, school groups and clubs, scouts, individuals, families, neighborhoods and businesses can put together a cleanup crew and pitch in.
Volunteers should meet at the Cabot School District’s Administrative Building parking lot at 602 North Lincoln St. Participants should arrive at 9 a.m. and check in with event staff. Volunteers will be assigned routes, if they have not already designated their own area(s) of concern. Orange safety vests and garbage bags will be provided.
Participants are encouraged to bring a sturdy pair of work-gloves and wear good walking shoes. At noon, all volunteers will meet back at the Administration Building parking lot to enjoy free food and drinks.
The main areas of concern for the cleanup effort are the main thoroughfares into the city. “A great first impression is very important. We hope to facilitate the opportunity for our citizens to develop a sense of ‘Cabot Pride’ while at the same time welcoming guests and visitors to our community,” said Angela White, CCB vice president. “We always try to spruce up around here, just before all the visitors come into town for big events, but the real benefit is to the residents of our city. Litter prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Although not everyone litters, we do all live in this community together and must work together to keep it clean and green. We do this out of community pride to maintain our outstanding quality of life and to improve our local economy.
“This project will not include a drive-thru drop-off for trash, tires or Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) materials. We will be focusing strictly on litter pick-up only. We will be concentrating on really cleaning up the trash along roadways in Cabot.”
