Book-signing at Faulkner Co. Library

Local author Carl J. Barger will be at the Faulkner County Library for a book-signing from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday, May 5.

Barger grew up in the Ozark Mountains of Cleburne County. He spent 38 years in the public schools in Arkansas, 33 as a superintendent.

Barger is the author of several historical fiction novels, including“Swords and Plowshares,” “Mamie, An Ozark Mountain Girl of Courage” and “Dark Clouds over Alabama.” He is also the author of a two-volume history of Cleburne County and its people.

“Blue Skies of El Dorado,” Barger’s newest release, continues the love story of Obadiah and his mixed blood wife, Penelope. To escape hate and prejudice, the couple flees with their families from Alabama to El Dorado. The couple’s love blossoms and their deep faith sees them through the troubled times. The novel presents love and hope in their best definition as it deals with tragedy and triumph of the Old South.
