11 Aug 2013 BISMARCK: Lions rebuild, reload
Conference: 5-3A
Coach: Jeff McBride
’12 Record: 0-10 (0-7)
Bismarck fell hard in 2012, finishing winless for the second time in six seasons. After making many adjustments to the team during the offseason, the Lions return seven starters each on offense and defense and look to put the past behind them and begin anew.
Senior A.C. Clayton has experience at quarterback, but may split time with junior Dakota Godwin and sophomore Hayden Short. Quick senior Justin Taylor returns as the team’s primary running back. Seniors Shelby Orr and Tyler Billings are both strong running options as well. Both Godwin and Short could see time at receiver. Senior guards Bryce Yarbrough and Robert Martin worked hard during the offseason.
Defensively, the Lions appear stronger. Orr received all-league honors last season and serves as a leader and role model. Billings stands firm at strong safety. Sophomore Joseph Chancellor joins the senior high squad as last year’s leading tackler for the junior high Lions.
