Bears pull away in the second half to start ASUN Season 2-0

CONWAY — Central Arkansas (7-8, 2-0 ASUN) secured a decisive 93-73 victory over Stetson (5-10, 1-1 ASUN) on Saturday night at the Farris Center. The Bears capitalized on turnovers, scoring 19 points from the Hatters’ 15 giveaways, and added 38 points from the bench to extend their conference record to 2-0.

Central Arkansas opened the game with a strong performance, securing a 41-28 lead by the end of the first half. Camren Hunter’s layup at 18:32 initiated a series of scores, contributing significantly as he surpassed his season average by scoring 21 total points. His defensive contributions were notable with multiple steals. Truman Byrne added to the offensive efforts with two 3-pointers, including one at 11:17, helping to build momentum. Byrne’s achieved both a career-high and a season-high with 11 points. Stetson’s Jamie Phillips Jr. attempted to keep the visitors close, netting a 3-pointer at the 0:41 mark, but the Bears maintained control with efficient scoring in the paint and from the free-throw line.

Central Arkansas extended its lead early in the second half with Ty Robinson hitting two free throws at 19:41 to make it 43-28. Robinson’s exceptional form continued as he achieved at least 20 total points in three consecutive games. Stetson’s Ethan Copeland responded with a 3-pointer at 19:17, narrowing the gap to 43-31. Hunter’s layup at 17:24, assisted by Robinson, pushed the Bears ahead 45-36. A key play occurred at 12:27 when Hunter sank a 3-pointer to widen the lead to 66-43. Despite the Hatters’ attempts to close the gap, the Bears maintained control, securing a commanding 93-73 victory.
