Bears drop mid-week decision to Tigers

CONWAY  — The University of Central Arkansas Bears scored first Tuesday night but the Memphis Tigers cruised to a 13-3 run-rule victory in non-conference action at Bear Stadium.

The Bears (14-21) got an RBI double by freshman catcher Carter Alexander that scored designated hitter Casey Shipley in the second inning. But the Tigers (15-21) scored the next eight runs, including six in the fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead.

The Bears got two runs back in the fifth inning with a two-run single up the middle by shortstop Nate Negre that brought home Zeb Allen, who had doubled, and Keon Moseni, who singled.

The Bears would not score again and finished with six hits spread among six different hitters. Memphis tallied 13 hits, including three by left fielder Chase Dixon. Third baseman Will Vasseur was 2 for 5 with 5 RBI.

UCA used the game as a bullpen day with five pitchers seeing action. Starter Perry Titlow struck out a career-high five batters and reliever Jake Jones had a career-high four strikeouts.

The Bears return to ASUN action on Thursday night, taking on the Lipscomb Bisons at 6 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.
