17 Apr 2024 Bears cap season in ASUN Championship
OWENS CROSSROADS, Ala. — The Central Arkansas women’s golf team capped the ASUN Championships in eighth place on Tuesday, rounding out its final 18 holes of the 2023-24 season. Madison Holmes took home ninth place at the Championship, her second-straight season earning a top-10 spot in the Championship.
Head coach Summar Roachell ended her first season at the helm with four top-five finishes and a win at The Judson in late October. She helped all four returners lower their averages from last season, and helped guide her golfers to seven top-10 finishes and 12 top-20 finishes across ten tournaments.
Holmes played her way to a third-round score of 75, capping her Tournament score of 218. The junior finished with eight birdies across 54 holes, and landed inside the top-20 for the third-straight year. Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir finished her third round with a score of 74, adding three more birdies to her total. The freshman had two of her birdies on the back nine, going 1-under on the final nine holes.
Pim-orn Thitisup capped her Central Arkansas career with a 76, penciling in a birdie on three to end the tournament with a final score of 226. Valeria Ramirez played her best round of golf on Tuesday, scoring a 74 after sinking four birdies. Ayami Takahashi rounded out a 79 for her final round, ending her tournament run at a 235.
The Bears were one of three teams to average less than five strokes on the par five holes as a squad, scoring a 2-under across all par fives. All five Bears were at or below par on such holes across the three rounds.
Kennesaw State took home the conference title after winning the day by seven strokes to overtake Lipscomb by two shots. Lipscomb dropped to second after scoring a 293 on Tuesday, and North Florida held on to its third-place spot. Lipscomb’s Lauren Thompson captured the individual medal with a final score of 205. Jacksonville’s Ivete Rodrigues placed second, and Kennesaw State’s Bella Kil took home third.
