BAUXITE: Miners building on last year's success

Conference: 7-4A
Coach: Dustin Prescott
’14 Record: 4-6 (2-5)

The Bauxite Miners made great strides in 2014. With four wins last fall, the Miners almost equaled their entire win total from the four previous seasons combined (five). Dustin Prescott takes over this year for a squad that is hungry to return to the playoffs.

Bauxite returns eight starters on offense and six on defense. Zack Baxley returns at quarterback. The senior is a member of this year’s 501 Football Team.

“I expect Zack to help our team become successful through his play and leadership,” Prescott said.

Other projected starters include seniors Blaze Vinyard (slotback/cornerback), Shawn Washington (slotback/outside linebacker), Tyler Stokes (fullback/inside linebacker), Adam Houdek (fullback/inside linebacker), Jacob Treat (center/defensive lineman), Zack Marshall (offensive guard/defensive tackle), Harrison Hampton (offensive guard/nose guard), Hunter McNair (tackle/defensive end), Buddy Riggan (tight end/nose guard), Dominique Watson (defensive end) and Carson Morado (offensive line) and junior Hunter Gautreaux (quarterback/defensive back).

“On offense we want to run the ball and keep the ball,” Prescott said. “Defensively we don’t want to give up the big play. The 7-4A is one of the best conferences if not the best in the state. We have a good senior class but we lack depth.”
