Ashcraft new athletic director

Conway Public Schools has named Clint Ashcraft as the new athletic director for the Wampus Cats.

Ashcraft has been Conway’s head football coach for the last nine years.

Superintendent Dr. Greg Murry said Ashcraft will lead the Athletics Department just as he led his players on the field, with character and integrity.

“It is a pleasure to announce Clint Ashcraft as our new Wampus Cat athletic director,” said Murry. “He is an excellent coach who has made a tremendous impact on his staff and his players. He has a personal commitment to all of our 14 sports here in Conway. We are looking forward to great things.”

Ashcraft began his career in Newport, where he coached football and softball. He coached at Watson Chapel Junior High, Arkansas Tech University, Greenbrier High School and Siloam Springs High School before coming to Conway as the head football coach in 2009.

Ashcraft is looking forward to the new role.

“Being an athletic director is something I have always wanted to do at some point in my career,” said Ashcraft. “When this opportunity presented itself, I felt it was one that was too good to pass up and one that may not come along again any time soon. It’s exciting to start a new chapter in your career and I look forward to working to make Conway High School athletics the premier athletic program in the state.”

Ashcraft said he is most excited about having the opportunity to watch all of Conway’s talented student athletes compete in their sports.

“Coaching the last 20 years has led to many great relationships and presented incredible experiences. I am now looking forward to evaluating our athletic programs and working with all of our coaches in looking for possible ways to grow and strengthen Conway athletics.”
