10 Feb 2025 Arkansas MLK Commission announces partnership with Las Vegas MLK Committee
LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission (AMLKC) is proud to announce an interstate partnership with the Las Vegas MLK Committee to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through an array of impactful programs in both Arkansas and Nevada.

Recognized as one of the nation’s most active commissions, the AMLKC was invited to participate in the 43rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, the largest King holiday parade in the world which was held in Las Vegas on Jan. 20.

In recognition of its exemplary service, the AMLKC was honored by the Las Vegas City Council, the Clark County Commission, the Black Caucus of Nevada and the City of North Las Vegas. These accolades included proclamations, acknowledgments, and a presentation of the Key to the City of North Las Vegas to Executive Director DuShun Scarbrough. He was celebrated as a National MLK Parade Ambassador, a prestigious permanent honor that entrusts him with supporting the sustainability and economic development of MLK Commissions nationwide.
“We are honored to partner with the Las Vegas Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee to expand Dr. King’s vision of unity, service and equality on a national platform,” Scarbrough said. “This collaboration bridges communities, promotes impactful programs like the Kingian Nonviolence principles and reinforces our shared commitment to honoring Dr. King’s legacy through service, leadership development and cultural celebration. Together, we aim to inspire individuals and create lasting change in both Arkansas and Nevada.”
The AMLKC Commissioners were also acknowledged for worldwide service during their recent visit with the Las Vegas Committee to establish a partnership. Scarbrough received a standing ovation before a packed house at the 43rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Banquet hosted by the Las Vegas MLK Committee while Mayor Shelley Berkely presented the key to the city. This was the very first key to the city presented under her administration.
During the 43rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade, as the Ambassador’s Circle proceeded through the announcement area, there was cheering and excitement for the AMLKC. The Commission was embraced with love and a warm welcome from the citizens of Las Vegas.

The partnership will also bring the MLK Tech Summit to Arkansas, introducing high school students to careers in technology and innovation. This initiative highlights the collaborative effort to advance Dr. King’s vision of unity, service and leadership development on a national platform.
