Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission plans pre-Veterans Day food giveaway

LITTLE ROCK – In honor of Veterans Day, the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission will hold a Pre-Veteran’s Day Food Giveaway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the commission’s headquarters at 906 Broadway in Little Rock. The drive-thru event is open to the public, especially those experiencing food insecurity.

“Dr. King once said, ‘Not everybody can be famous, but everybody can be great because greatness is determined by service,’” said DuShun Scarbrough, executive director of the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission. “Our outreach is guided by service, and we believe it’s crucial to honor our veterans, not just on Veterans Day but every day. This event is a small token of our immense gratitude for their service and sacrifice.”

The commission hosts food giveaway outreach events several times a year and provides tens of thousands of pounds of free food to Arkansans throughout the state. For the Nov. 8 event, the commission invited veterans to participate. The public is encouraged to visit with the veterans onsite and learn more about their experiences.
