20 Jul 2016 Arkansas athletes headed to AAU Junior Olympics
Excited young athletes from Little Rock, Fayetteville, Conway, Pine Bluff, Jacksonville, Searcy and several other cities in Arkansas are ready to GO FOR THE GOLD!
The Christian Competition Track Club from Little Rock, along with track clubs and unattached athletes throughout Arkansas, are counting the days until they compete in the 50th Anniversary of the AAU/USA Junior Olympics in Houston, Texas, from Friday, July 29, through Saturday, Aug. 6.
Humble, Texas, a suburb of Houston, will host the Junior Olympic Track and Field events. The athletes will join thousands of competitors from the 50 contiguous states in the U.S. for this momentous event. The last time the AAU Junior Olympic Track and Field Games were held in Houston, Texas, in 2012, more than 14,000 athletes participated.
Arkansas’s talented athletes, in age divisions: 8 and under through 18, have worked tirelessly to achieve this tremendous level of success. To advance to the 2016 AAU Junior Olympics, each had to compete in the District Qualifying Meet in Hot Springs on June 11; then the Regional Qualifier in Lawrence, Kansas, on June 25-26, finishing in the top six in a running event, top five in a field event, and/or the top four in a relay/multi-event.
Congratulations to all of the athletes! Tremendous thanks and acknowledgments to Coach Willie Morris, district director for Arkansas AAU Track and Field and sports director of the Christian Competition Track Club, all of the wonderful coaches, assistants and volunteers who participated in the AAU Track and Field Events this year.
