Annual Little Rock Golf Shamble coming Aug. 18

The 11th annual Little Rock Golf Shamble is set for Monday, Aug. 18, at Pleasant Valley Country Club. The popular event is a fundraiser for both the Trojan women’s and men’s golf squads at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

“We are looking forward to our yearly fundraiser again this year at Pleasant Valley Country Club,” Trojan men’s golf coach Austin Eoff said. “This is a special day for our program, and it is great to see the strong community support and give our donors a chance to connect and play golf with our student-athletes. The shamble helps support our team and provide players with a unique collegiate golfing experience throughout the year.”

Each year, the event honors a special person that has made a mark on the programs. This year, both teams are proud to honor Bucky Magness.

Magness was a longtime volunteer coach for the men’s and women’s golf program. He first met former Little Rock golf coach Wyn Norwood when he was an intern football coach at Russellville High School and Norwood a sophomore member of the Cyclones. Thirty-five years later, Norwood and his wife, Bridgett, were leading the Trojan golf program and Magness offered his volunteer services.

“Bucky helped guide me as a young teenager and later in life when I was trying to guide others,” Norwood said. “Bucky was there for me, my wife, Bridgett, and all the young men and women that came up through the golf program at Little Rock. He and his wife, Judy, were always helping and giving and never asked for anything in return. It is most appropriate that the department has recognized his many contributions to the golf program and the university with this honor.

Little Rock men’s assistant coach George Scanlon was also a Trojan player from 2017-19 and benefitted from Magness’s tutelage.

“I appreciate everything Coach Bucky did for me in my three years as a Trojan, let alone everything he did for the whole Little Rock Golf Program,” Scanlon said. “He was always there to support everybody and to be a father figure to those who had families far away. I will always appreciate his guidance and support throughout my college career.”

This unique event, played at one Little Rock’s top courses, allows participants to play a shamble golf tournament paired with one of the talented golfers from the 2025-26 Little Rock men’s and women’s golf teams or a Little Rock Golf alumnus.

“The annual golf shamble at Pleasant Valley is a day that everyone a part of both Little Rock golf programs look forward to each year,” Trojans women’s golf head coach Jenna Birch said. “Over the past six years, I have seen the excitement and commitment of the Little Rock community towards this event grow immensely making it a huge success.

“Not only does the event allow everyone to get to know all of the players, but it allows the players to get to know each and every person who contributes to both programs! Personally, this is one of my favorite days of the year, and I know the girls look forward to it, too, and are sad when it’s over.”

Both teams have high expectations for the 2025-26 season. The Trojan women, who won the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, finished second last season. The men won the OVC Tournament and earned a berth to the NCAA Regionals. The men were ranked in the top 40 for most of last season.
