Independence Day was celebrated in Maumelle with a parade, festival and fireworks as well as the community’s first cardboard boat races.

“Anchors Aweigh” was the theme for the Maumelle Fourth of July Parade, which was followed by a festival at Lake Willastein Park and the cardboard boat races sponsored by the Maumelle Chamber of Commerce.

“The Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce was excited to host our first cardboard boat race because it was a great way to get involved with the Maumelle community,” said executive director Tara Davidson. “We love this city and love being a part of such a great community!”

Fifteen boats entered the race, and the winning entry was named “Why Knot?” and was built by Kimberly-Clark – Maumelle.
