Vilonia residents recently participated in a community-wide event in an effort to help a Sherwood woman in need of a bone marrow transplant.
Leslie Harris, 29, was diagnosed with AML (leukemia) on Sept. 21, just hours before giving birth to her son, Samuel Ayden. She has undergone four rounds of chemo and has endured months of sickness, surgery and pain. She has been given only six months to a year to live without a transplant.
Working with the Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry, residents came to the Vilonia Fire Department to be swabbed to see if they are a match for Harris or anyone on the registry.
