25 Aug 2010 501 Football Extra: Searcy Lions
Searcy recorded only one win in 2005, 2007 and 2008 and no wins in 2006. The Lions blew those numbers away last fall, posting a 4-6 record in the regular season and a trip to the playoffs.
Searcy finished tied for fifth in the 6A-East and fell in the first round of the state playoffs at Watson Chapel, 42-7.
And the good news just gets better as the Lions return 18 starters – nine on each side of the ball.
Junior Dezmond Stegall (6-2, 195) returns at quarterback, and he has veteran options at receiver in seniors Bear Davidson (5-11, 160), B.J. Slaughter (6-2, 185) and Preston Tarkington (6-2, 190). Senior Adam Hammond (6-0, 260) anchors the offensive line from his center position.
Defensively the Lions are led up front by tackle Drew Rambo (6-1, 270). Senior Mike Brown (6-1, 220) provides all-state experience at linebacker.
5 Players to Watch: Dezmond Stegall (Jr. QB), B.J. Slaughter (Sr. WR), Adam Hammond (Sr. OL), Drew Rambo (Sr. DL) and Mike Brown (Sr. LB).
