UCA Expanding Engagement to NWA

CONWAY—The University of Central Arkansas is expanding its reach with a familiar face to Northwest Arkansas.

Paul Gatling has been selected as the Senior Director of Northwest Arkansas Engagement and will be responsible for strengthening relationships with alumni and business partners as well as sharing UCA’s story.

“UCA recognizes that Northwest Arkansas is an economic engine in our state, and many of our alumni choose to make that area home,” President Houston Davis said. “This is such an important region that we chose to invest in having a full-time employee serving this area to build relationships.”

Gatling joined the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal in 2011 and was promoted to editor and associate publisher in 2013, covering the region’s business news online, in print, television and radio.

“As we searched for the right fit for this position, Paul immediately rose to the top of our list,” said Dr. Mary Bane Lackie, Vice President of University Advancement. “His knowledge of the business community in Northwest Arkansas will help UCA build partnerships that will further benefit our students and graduates.”

An Arkansas native, Gatling moved to Bentonville in 2001. He previously spent nine years – 2001-2009 – as sports editor at the Benton County Daily Record in Bentonville. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communication from Henderson State University in 1998.

“I can’t express how thankful I am for the incredible 13 years I’ve spent at the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal. Sharing stories about its remarkable growth and success has been a privilege,” Gatling said. “As I embark on the next chapter of my career at the University of Central Arkansas, I remain energized. I am eager to continue building meaningful connections and to make a positive impact in Northwest Arkansas. I’m genuinely humbled and grateful for this opportunity. I look forward to the work ahead and the chance to contribute to UCA’s mission in this new role.”
