Sherwood hosts Independence Day celebration on July 3 at The Greens

SHERWOOD — Get ready for a unique experience at Fireworks & Food Trucks at The Greens at North Hills! Last year, the Sherwood community came together to celebrate Independence Day at this new location, offering a picturesque view of the fireworks from the golf course. Families enjoyed the festivities on their picnic blankets with games in full swing. The food truck park, perched atop the driving range, provided a variety of options for a delightful pre-fireworks picnic.

This year, we’re excited to see the community come together again for an even more exciting event with an expanded lineup of food trucks and increased parking. The fun begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd. Patrons should remember to bring their chairs, blankets, games and appetites. The fireworks, sponsored by the Sherwood Advertising and Promotions Commission, will light up the sky after nightfall. If we experience inclement weather, the event will be canceled for safety reasons.

Complimentary parking will be provided on some of the course’s fairways in multiple areas. Handicapped parking will be available in the designated spots. Signs will be posted, and attendants will be on hand to assist with parking. Behind the events center, a family fun zone with bounce houses will keep the little ones entertained before the big fireworks show, and a DJ will spin tunes from the outdoor balcony. The handicapped viewing area will also be located behind the events center.

In conjunction with the free fireworks show, the Balcony Blast Fundraiser will be held upstairs in The Greens events center. This limited capacity cover-charge event will include food, beer and wine, air-conditioning, and balcony viewing for $30 per person and $15 for children ages ten and under. All proceeds for this event will benefit outreach programs through the COPPS division of the Sherwood Police Department. COPPS stands for Community-Oriented Policing and Problem Solving. In addition to patrolling and keeping our streets safe, this division of our police force provides community support through various programs such as COPPS Kids Christmas, Coats for Kids, Stuff the Backpack, Fishing Derbies, Chili Cook-off, Cops and Cones, Coffee with a Cop, Unsheltered Outreach, and other programs as needs arise. Space is limited, and tickets are first come, first served. Tickets are available at eventbrite.com.

Of course, there will be other viewing opportunities in parking lots near the golf course. Sherwood Police Department does not recommend parking across Highway 107 or North Hills and attempting to walk across those streets. If you park anywhere other than the city-sponsored parking areas, please plan to stay put and enjoy the fireworks where you are parked or ONLY walk where sidewalks and crosswalks are available.
