Maddox Long named GAC Pitcher of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Great American Conference announced the baseball players of the week for the 11th week of the 2024 season. Arkansas Monticello’s Camden Tanner, Henderson State’s Jordan Allen and Oklahoma Baptist’s Troy Shields shared Player of the Week while Harding’s Maddox Long earned Pitcher of the Week.

#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Camden Tanner, RF, Arkansas-Monticello, Fr., North Little Rock, Arkansas
Tanner helped the Weevils earn a series win against first-place Northwestern Oklahoma State. He went 8-for-14 with four home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored. He doubled and scored twice in game one. He hit two home runs, including a go-ahead solo home run in the ninth inning of game two. He hit two more home runs in game three.

#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jordan Allen, OF, Henderson State, Fr., Tatum, Texas
Allen led the Reddies to a sweep of Southern Nazarene as he produced a .692 on-base percentage and a 1.727 slugging percentage. He tallied five extra-base hits – three home runs a double and a triple. He scored four runs and drove in eight. In game two of the series, he went 3-for-4 falling just a single shy of the cycle.

#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Troy Shields, C/DH, Oklahoma Baptist, Jr., El Dorado Hills, California
Shields terrorized Ouachita Baptist pitching as he went 10-for-12 and added four walks for an .875 on-base percentage. He went 5-for-5, with two intentional walks, in game one. He homered twice and drove in seven. He collected two more hits and two RBI in game two. In the finale, he tallied three hits, his fifth-straight multi-hit game, and knocked home two more runs.

#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Maddox Long, SP, Harding, Sr., Morrilton, Arkansas
Long improved to 4-1 and lowered his ERA to 2.57 when he defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State, 2-0, on Friday for his first-career shutout. He registered the Bisons’ first shutout of 9.0 innings or more since Carter McCall defeated Arkansas Tech, 1-0, in 10 innings on April 29, 2022. He struck out seven, walked only one and surrendered just three hits.
