Bears host Dolphins in ASUN weekend series

CONWAY—The Jacksonville Dolphins will visit Conway for the first time this weekend to face the University of Central Arkansas Bears in an Atlantic Sun Conference baseball series.

The series, due to Easter Weekend, opens at 6 p.m. Thursday at Bear Stadium. Friday’s game is set for 4 p.m., with the series finale at 11 a.m. Saturday to accommodate Jacksonville’s travel schedule.

The Bears (11-13) are coming off a key 2-1 series victory over North Florida last weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. UCA is now 3-3 in ASUN play after beating UNF 9-6 and 2-0 in last Sunday’s doubleheader.

The Dolphins (11-13) are 5-1 in league play after sweeping a wild series at Bellarmine last weekend in Louisville. Jacksonville won 10-6, 16-14 and 17-13, totaling 38 hits and 43 runs. They then had one hit on Tuesday night at home against the University of Central Florida, getting a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth to break up the Knights’ no-hitter.

The Dolphins sit in a tie for first place in the ASUN standings with Eastern Kentucky, which took two of three games from the Bears two weeks ago at Bear Stadium.

Jacksonville swept the three games with UCA last season in Jacksonville, Fla., including a pair of run-rule games, in the first meeting between the programs.
